Guidance Note for Potential Steering Group Members

Thank you for your interest in joining the Alliance for Feminist Movements’ Steering Group! Please send in your letter of interest by Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

This Guidance Note provides some recommendations about how to draft your letter of interest to join the Steering Group of the Alliance for Feminist Movements.

If you have any questions when drafting your letter, please reach out to the Secretariat

Your letter should be addressed to the members of the Alliance for Feminist Movements.

You could say:

  • Dear Members of the Alliance for Feminist Movements;
  • To: Members of the Alliance for Feminist Movements; or
  • Another preferred greeting

Your letter should be signed by someone within your institution who has decision-making power to put forward your institution for this role. This could be an Executive Director, a Minister, a President, a senior manager, etc. We know that this will be different from institution to institution.

Please include the person’s full name and title at the end of the letter. If this person has an electronic signature, please use it. If they do not have an electronic signature, that is not a problem – just include their full name and title.

  • Your letter could include the following information:
  • 1 paragraph: An introduction to your institution.
    • This could include your institution’s goals, where you are based, how you are structured, how long you have been operating, etc.
  • 1 – 2 paragraphs: An explanation of your institution’s commitment to feminist movements with a few examples, if possible.
    • This could include any information about your organizing activities, programmatic work, advocacy priorities, financial contributions, or political support for women’s rights organizations and feminist movements.
  • 1 – 3 paragraphs: An explanation of why your institution is interested in being part of the Steering Group and what it hopes to accomplish during its time on the Steering Group.
    • This could include your overall goals for the Alliance and how you would support them as a member of the Steering Group.

You can submit your letter in English, Spanish, or French – the three working languages of the Alliance. Please write your letter in whichever of these three languages you are most comfortable using.

The Secretariat will translate your letter into whichever of the two languages you do not use and then share the letters with the Alliance’s members clearly marking the original language of the submission. You may submit your letter in multiple languages, but this is not required.

You can submit your letter as a PDF or a Word document. Please do not submit a photo or scanned copy of your letter as this will make the translation process more difficult.

The letters will be shared with members of the Alliance as PDFs.

  • Whenever possible, use your organization’s letterhead or logo on your letter.
  • Remember, the letter should be no longer than two pages.
